Hello! My name is Ms. Nelson. I am the Licensed Dyslexia Therapist and Learning Lab Director here at St. Pius X Catholic School. This is my second year here. It is a wonderful community and a joy teach with a vibrant staff!!
Now here is some information about myself!
I was born in Texas and raised in Texas and Louisiana. It's just the five of us in my family. I have a beautiful cat, Cotton whom I love dearly. My family lives here in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area. I love spending time with my family and friends whenever I get a chance! I enjoy volunteering in the community and at my church and traveling when I get a chance.
Since I was a junior in high school, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher so I went to college and received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Special Education and a Master's Degree in Education specializing in Dyslexia. I have certifications in General Education, Special Education, English Second Language, Educational Diagnostician, and Academic Language Therapist.
I have sixteen years of experience as an educator in Texas. Eight years have been in the public school districts and seven years in the Catholic schools in the Diocese of Dallas. For the past five years I have been working with students with dyslexia using the Take Flight program from the Scottish Rites Hospital. It is so inspiring to watch the students whom I work with in the program thrive.
As a "cradle" Catholic, I love being able to incorporate my faith into my lessons where the students are able to learn what our faith is all about and being able to incorporate it into their life. It truly is a rewarding experience to watch the students grow deeper into their faith while strengthening their relationship with Christ.
Thank you for allowing me to take the time and share a little bit about myself. It is wonderful to be here and to have the opportunity to work with these students at St. Pius X so that they can grow in their academics and their faith.
