St Pius X offers cheerleading and mascot(s)opportunities for girls entering 7th and 8th grade; we encourage all those interested to sign up in the spring (May) of their 6th or 7th grade year. Tryouts will be held for cheerleaders if more than 15 girls sign up; if more than two individuals sign up for mascot tryouts will be held for this position as well. Tryouts will be completed prior to the end of each school year (May/June). The squad cheers at all school pep rallies and varsity football games in the Fall (September to early November) of each year.
All Cheerleading practices are mandatory. Practices are held in the gym Friday 5-7
CHEER CAMP: Optional at Coaches Discretion, TBA
DRESS CODE FOR TRYOUTS/PRACTICES:
T-shirts (no tank tops or low neck lines), shorts (no slick wind pants or shorts), hair must be pulled back in a ponytail or braids, with bangs out of eyes; NO jewelry, NO gum;
Tryouts: All girls must wear their SPX blue PE shorts and solid white short sleeve cotton T-shirt(Tryouts depend on number of girls participating and mascot candidates).
Start stretching NOW! A series of conditioning exercises will be taught during tryouts and should be done outside cheer practices DAILY.
PEP RALLYS: Approx. 3-5 through out the year typically held on Fridays in the gym at 2pm.
FOOTBALL GAMES: Cheerleaders perform for ALL Varsity Football Games (and some JV games) Cheerleaders must arrive 30 minutes prior to each game; if you are tardy you sit out the first quarter of the game.
Dress Code: Cheer Sponsor will provide notice of what to wear each game when the football season starts (skirt, top, ribbons, shoes, socks & hair).
Snacks:Each cheerleader will provide drinks & snacks for the squad, on a rotating basis, to have during 3rd quarter of each game. Bring your own water bottle.
